July Birchbox Review
This month marks the end of my 6 month subscription
to birchbox. I am currently in two minds about renewing it. I have had boxes
that I was over the moon about and boxes that I just felt a little let down by,
and unfortunately this box just didn’t float my boat. When I look at the other
samples available, I would have much preferred them. With birchbox, you get to
personalise your account, saying what you would most like to receive, but there
have been a few boxes where they had products I really wanted to try and
instead got something I don’t believe was suited to me at all. For example,
this month they were samples of Soigne nail polish (https://birchbox.co.uk/shop/soigne-cerise-nail-polish),
in one of my favourite shades but instead they send me some sparkly pink crap,
luckily I look after 3 little girls, they love their new nail polish, https://birchbox.co.uk/shop/models-own-fireworks-rocket-1888. Please
note, I like models own nail polish, its good and has a uniform price, which I
quite like, this shade is just the opposite to anything I would wear.
I got the usual 5 samples plus I life style extra (a
nail buffer).
I
received
LAQA & Co. Cosmetics - Laqa & Co Sheer Lip
Lube In Menatour (Purple) £14
I was excited to try this. I really like the purple
lipstick trend, but it just never went purple enough for me. It was always a
bit pink, but it was a strong, even and slightly matt colour. I did sit on you
lip and never really sunk it. It did apply really easily and cleanly, have an
interesting minty taste, and didn’t dry out my lips. It did its job, I quite
like the product.
Whish - Whish Three Wishes Lavender Body Butter
They sent me a sample the felt empty. It was similar
to when you get to the end of the shampoo and it just spurts out little blobs
at a time. When you get a blob you get a massive whiff of lavender, and that
very quickly disappears and you are just left with something that smells fine,
but I would go and buy it because of the smell. The texture is very thick, and
it felt very heavy on my skin. I used it on my elbows as they are very dry and
I hardly saw a difference, but it was only two applications. I can't seem to
find a price in sterling for this product, but its $24 a bottle. Waste of money
if you ask me.
Benefit - Benefit POREfessional £24.50
I must confess I ADORE all benefit products. I have
never tried one I didn’t like! This product is no different; I actually already
have a little sample of it. Benefit products tend to be a little pricey
compared to high street stores but their products work so well and last a long
time, so, for me, it’s worth every penny. This product covers nicely, makes
your pores look visible smaller, keeps oil at bay, and just feels amazing on
your skin. I love, love, love this product. It was the only thing in this month’s
box I really liked and made it worth buying.
Balance Me - Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream £20
Birchbox are clearly sponsored by this brand, in six
months, I have received about three different products from this brand. They
are all fine. This felt nice going on my skin, was easy to apply and had a nice
texture, but I gave it to my sister as I don’t really put products on my eyes,
I think if you try to ‘prevent’ something before it happens, it just makes it
worse. I used it once, it was fine. It’s just not really a product care to use.
Models Own - Models Own Nail Polish £5
As I said earlier, I like this brands nail polish,
whenever I visit the one in Brent Cross, once I have finished being accosted by
about 40 members of staff, I always find myself buying a new cute colour. They
bush on nicely, dry quickly and give really a really even coat and don’t chip too
easily, but this colour was just the opposite of me, so I gave it to my little
girlies.
Nail Buffer
I threw away the information I got with my box, so I
can’t tell you the brand. Either way, I nail buffer is always useful.
So, to conclude, July birchbox is not my favourite.
I LOVE the benefit product and am on the fence about all the other products.
Expect that ghastly pink nail polish – that was just poor choice by the
birchbox staff.
I really am on the fence about renewing, I think I
will buy one more box and see if I like it. I am thinking about trying glossy
box.
Hope you are all having a lovely day
Mel
